No excuses – Why I chose December for the One Month One Change challenge

The One Month One Change (OMOC) challenge starts today! I have been planning the challenge for a while, but chose the month of December for specific reasons – I wanted to make you realize everything is possible if you commit to it.

“… there will always be something standing in the way of easily making a change, and if you let that something be your excuse you will forever be stuck.”

One of the things I hear all the time in my line of business is how one event or another seems to be standing in the way of people creating the lives they want. When I try to schedule a nutrition challenge at CrossFit Elysium there is always a group of people who are all in, and another who reference upcoming holiday celebrations, birthdays or weekends as reasons why they cannot possibly start to address their eating habits now. In my coaching practice clients often explain their lack of progress and the fact that they are stuck on the presence of stressful circumstance, or sometimes just life circumstances that are unavoidable. What I have learned along the way is that there will always be something standing in the way of easily making a change, and if you let that something be your excuse you will forever be stuck.

“I figure that if I can convince you that you can make a change in one month in December, nothing will stand in the way of your goals the rest of the year!”

So I chose December the “busiest month of the year” in Western countries as the time to introduce this challenge, because I figure that if I can convince you that you can make a change in one month in December, nothing will stand in the way of your goals the rest of the year! I have to admit, I was also hoping that many of you would be motivated by wanting to finish the year off on a high note, maybe even complete a resolution you set January 1, 2014.

Here is what the challenge entails:

  1. First, set a goal for yourself, and be reasonable, the goal has to be something you can actually achieve in a month.
  2. Secondly, post your goal on the Life in Focus Facebook page under the comment section for the OMOC post that is pinned to the top of the page. Posting your goal automatically enters you in a drawing to win one of four prizes: one month of real Wealth Equation coaching ($450), a real Health Equation coaching program ($600), the Change of Heart e-course ($99), or a $25 Amazon gift card. If you win you can keep the prize for yourself or transfer it to someone else (the coaching can be done across state lines and international borders, so no worries there).
  3. Next, really think about how you are going to approach this goal.If you don’t’ create a solid plan of action the month will come and go, and you might find yourself short of your goal.  I will be posting advice and strategies in the In Focus blog on a weekly basis at the very least, because I want you to have all the tools at your disposal to succeed in this endeavor.
  4. Finally, I encourage you to share your progress, trials, tribulations and advice on the Life in Focus Facebook page. The advantage of having this challenge is that you have a small community that can support and help you. We will keep you accountable, we will keep you focused and we are here as a sounding board when you feel stuck.

Not quite sure how to approach this? Ask! Both the Twitter feed and the Facebook page are great ways of reaching out.
